Melrose Awards Deadline Extended; Still Time to Submit Yarnfiti Projects
The Melrose Awards are back after a five-year hiatus and the submission deadline has been extended to Sept. 15.
From music to photography, video game development and more, creative projects made using any Melrose Center resource between Jan. 1, 2020, and Sept. 15, 2024, are eligible for entry. The winners will be announced at the Melrose Awards Presentation on Nov. 9.
The contest is open to all ages. Entries for contestants under the age of 18 must be submitted by a guardian. Participants must have completed the Melrose Center General Orientation. The project must be the participants’ original creation. AI tools may only be used to enhance a project, not to create the work itself. For more details and to enter, visit ocls.info/melrose-awards-2024/.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning project in these categories:
• Audio – Voice Only
• Audio – Music
• Fiber Arts
• Graphic Design
• Maker
• Photography
• Videography
Video Game Development Makers have another opportunity to share their work with Yarnfiti, an annual community-created art installation. This year, in addition to knitting and crochet, contributors are invited to submit projects from a variety of crafts including sewing, embroidery, weaving and more to build an Enchanted Forest. Classes and meetups are available to help collaborate on pieces from suggested patterns. Contributors are also encouraged to submit creations of their own design.
All submissions must be accompanied by a submission form and brought to the Yarnfiti Installation Party on September 12, 2024, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Orlando Public Library. There will be an opening reception at noon on September 14, 2024, and the Enchanted Forest will be on display on the second floor of the Orlando Public Library through October 18th.
