Opera Orlando Presents $100,000 To Holocaust Memorial Resource & Education Center Of Florida After Benefit Concert Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín
HMREC is thrilled to share the incredible success of their recent partnership with Opera Orlando for Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín. This moving concert-drama, which premiered at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on September 14, 2024, masterfully combined Verdi’s powerful Requiem with survivor testimonies and rare historical footage, bringing to life the courageous story of Jewish prisoners who performed Verdi’s masterpiece in defiance of their Nazi captors during World War II.
Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Opera Orlando, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Orlando Sings, and the Defiant Requiem Foundation, as well as the support of generous donors and ticket buyers, HMREC is proud to announce that $100,000 has been raised for the Holocaust Memorial Resource & Education Center of Florida. The funds will help them continue their mission to educate the community and foster a just and caring society free from prejudice and bigotry.
They extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those who made this possible, including over 500 students and educators who attended on free tickets, and to everyone who was part of the monumental performance.
